Necromansion Major Updates on the way! First Demo

Hi all! Necromansion has been worked on quietly since its initial jam release in September and its time to share some of the big changes as its release is just around the corner.

For those who haven't played yet: Necromansion is a turn-based gridless strategy duel game where you take control of a necromancer and attempt to lead a horde of unruly summons who dont mind if they kill either you or your opponent. You can summon a massive horde, but you only have the power to control 3 units at a time. All other units move on their own accord, and will attack you if they cross your path. Its a strange mixture of an auto-battler, party game, and strategy card game that might be similar to something like Despots Game, Duelyst and Inscryption, but its also got a unique twist of horde balance and not causing your own demise!

Jam went really well- but since then I have had the time to develop into the game I was hoping to create. To split it into sections, Ive added:

  • New Summons + Enemies
  • New Summoning Methods
  • Upgrades and Spells
  • Archetypes and Deck (Horde) Building
  • New Rooms and Map

New Summons and Enemies

When I made the Jam I had 5 playable units. Right now its bumped up to 12+ for the demo! The new units have different abilities, for instance the Hag is a ranged Magician with the ability to attack multiple enemies and has a sizeable mana bar.

New Summoning Methods

You dont have infinite summons anymore: and summoning costs resources! Each unit has a mana, hp, and sacrifice cost. Dead units from both sides leave behind a corpse pile that can be used as summoning fodder- but the fastest way to summon is to sacrifice living units already in play, resulting in an instant summoned unit that you can immediately control.

Upgrades and Spells

As you progress, you get upgrades and spells that can be added to your units. This lets you customise your deck in a big way! Some upgrades grant battle benefits, while some affect your hand and draws.  There's currently 29 different upgrades available!

Archetypes and Deck (Horde) Building

As mentioned before, there are now 8 archetypes in the game: some examples are Magicians, Skeletons, Demons, and Abominations. Some upgrades are specific to an archetype and cant be granted to another unit. When you battle, having multiple of the same archetype on the field grants benefits: 3 Undead on the field gives you a 25% chance to summon a bonus zombie every time you summon another unit. 5 Undead and you'll get an even bigger boost. You randomly draw potential summons from your Grimoire each turn like a card game, so you might want to collect a horde with a lot of synergy and that can draw quickly into its components!

New Rooms and Map

There's new challenges in the new version. You'll not just have battle rooms: there'll also be Event rooms, Shops, as well as different battle styles instead of just classic wizard duel.

Thats all I have to share today. I hope this leaves you feeling excited about the release! Im working on this alone and for pretty much every waking hour at the moment so any feedback- likes, follows, comments are massively appreciated and are also what I have to use to gauge how much time I can realistically spend on this before release. Feel free to try out the old jam version of Necromansion but at the same time, expect a big overhaul. Hope everyone is having a good 2022 so far and see you soon!
